Tech >   Blue Ridge Offroad Rock Rails - TJ

Article & Photos by Jim Bacon
Larry, the owner of Blue Ridge Offroad contacted me about his Rock Rails.  I looked at several photos and had several discussions of his products, and that's when Larry suggested I test out his Rock Rails, and before I knew it, they were sitting at my front door.

Installation

NOTICE: When installing rails, make sure the backing plate IS NOT placed over any brake lines or electrical connections /airlines that may be on the vehicle.  Be sure to place your vehicle on level ground and use parking brake.

Installing the Blue Ridge Offroad Rock Rails  is very straight forward, but I suggest just doing a quick scan and get after it.

1. If you have the stock steps, you will need to go ahead and take those off, very easy and surprising that the small screws (Figure 1) that are used actually keep these things on, although they are notched to catch and hang in the stock location.

2. Once the stock steps are removed, position the rock rail against the frame of the vehicle.

3. On the front mounting point, place a backing plate on the inside of the frame and place a bolt with washer thought tope hole on the rock rail over frame and into the backing plate.  Slide the the washer, lock washer onto top bolt and screw it on, leaving it loose as you continue on the remaining bottom bolt, and install as top bolt.

4. On the rear mounting point location, you will do as the front mounting location, using the backing plate, bolts, washers and nuts.

5. Once you have all bolts loosely on, go ahead and tighten down evenly.

6. Repeat all steps for other rail..

7. Your done.

Product Review:

When I first took a look at the rails in the photos, they looked good, but when they showed up on my front door step and I had to bring them over to the garage, I could already tell they were beefy.  Once I had them unpackaged, you could tell the type of quality that Larry of Blue Ridge Offroad puts into these things.  They are very impressive and I can not recommend these Rock Rails enough.  Since the installation, I have had several compliments, but most importantly, they are trail tough. These Rock Rails are tough. Made of 3/16" steel they come primed and painted black. The step is angled up 30 degrees for better clearance. Installation is easy - just bolt on with the supplied hardware. No drilling required.

These rails as all Blue Ridge Offroad products are reasonably priced, and for a limited time, these rock rails have Free Shipping!!
